Being chosen as patron of the month is an honor I never expected to receive. I am humbled to be recognized among others that have amazing and inspiring stories. My personal journey started two years ago when I decided that my health was going to be a priority, and I was going to live differently in the next phase of my life. My mind is exactly where my work began. I quit making excuses of why I couldn’t do something and started saying I could. I quit thinking about what I was missing and instead what I was gaining.
Having the Rec Center close to home, made it easy to get active. I started attending classes and meeting new people and instructors. These connections inspired me to show up and in a short time new habits were formed. This facility is amazing and offers so many options for all types of interests and fitness levels. I strongly recommend anybody that has been on the fence to check it out. My mindset is what got me to the gym and the instructors are what keep me going. Movement is addicting and I find myself looking forward to it.
I am a totally different person than I was two years ago, and I give credit to Carbon Valley and its staff for playing a pivotal role in encouraging me. My journey has been about more than weight loss and what the number on the scale reads. My overall health has improved, and I focus on non-scale victories like being able to tie my shoes, buckle in an amusement ride comfortably, take my dogs for walks, wear my rings, get up off the floor and climb flights of stairs without having to stop for air…just to name a few. This health battle is largely mental, and it is easy to get in your own way.
My message is that if I can do it, so can you. No matter what your age, it is never too late. Change one thought at a time. Take one step at a time. Come to one class at the Rec Center at a time. Challenge yourself to try something new. Change is possible, I am proof. Go for it!
